We have begun our nonfiction unit. We will be reading Hana’s Suitcase as our mentor text and learning about different text structures such as problem/solution, chronological order, main idea and details, cause and effect, and compare and contrast.
Students are writing an informational mini-magazine using text features and different text structures.
Math In Focus-
We just started our fraction unit. Students will learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. Students will take the next IAB on fractions on January 25th
Students should be practicing their multiplication and division facts every night.
Magnet - Egypt:
Our classroom's country is Egypt. We will spend the year researching Egypt and creating projects!
Unit 2: Students are researching problems that exist in Egypt and around the world. Problems include pollution, hunger, water, homelessness, and natural disasters. Students will be creating a mini-magazine for their PBL project this quarter.
Your child will have homework Monday through Thursday. Homework will consist of a reading assignment given on Monday and returned on Friday. A math assignment will usually be given every night . In addition to their nightly homework, your child should be reading for a minimum of 20 minutes each night.
